Rachelle Buchbinder talks arthritis on ABC Radio

Joint Coordinating Editor of the Cochrane Musculoskeletal Group Rachelle Buchbinder recently joined ABC Melbourne 774’s Lindy Burns for a wide-ranging interview on arthritis and other musculoskeletal conditions, which affect one in every three Australians. These conditions have the second greatest impact on the health of the population after cancer, yet they receive only a fraction of the funding and attention other national health priority areas do. And while there are around 35 active clinical trials groups in Australia and New Zealand, there’s not a single one for arthritis and musculoskeletal conditions. This is all set to change following the recent Australia & New Zealand MUSCuloskeletal (ANZMUSC) summit that was convened in Melbourne in April. Rachelle explains the key issues behind the summit and the benefits a clinical trials network holds for future funding and research. Listen to the full interview here and keep an eye out for our feature on clinical trials networks in the next edition of Elements.
