The annual list of top 5 Cochrane Reviews and podcasts downloaded by Australians in 2016 offers an interesting national snapshot of diverse research areas.
Exercise for back pain by Sydney-based authors Bruno Saragiotto, Christopher Maher, Tiê Yamato and colleagues topped the most downloaded new review charts both here in Australia and internationally. Australian author Brigid Hickey also made an appearance in the local top 5 listings, with her popular podcast on fraction size in radiation therapy for breast cancer coming in at number four.
Comparatively, this year’s list suggests Australian Library users share various interests with global Library users, including reducing sitting at work, preventing self-harm in adults and exploring the beneficial properties of Vitamin D. While 2015’s best-of list featured a high number of non-pharmacological interventions, such pilates for back pain, music for mechanically ventilated patients and dance therapy for depression, the 2106 list sees a greater mix of non-pharmacological and clinical interventions.
